Meeting Notes from October 6, 2015

Presiding was President Steve Goranson and the Thought for the Day was presented by Kate Collinson.

Announcements

Jane Lowicki (Evanston Rotary Club) urged members to sign up to volunteer at the Rotary International headquarters building, which will be a featured site on the Chicago Architecture Foundation’s, “Open House Chicago” route, Saturday, October 17, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Sign up sheets were on each table, but those who wish to volunteer can also contact Jane directly at jane.lawicki@rotary.org or (847) 866-3229.

Steve Goranson announced that the annual Holiday Sale is about to launch and thanked the committee for a number of improvements to the process.  Steve Carlson has been upgrading the web interface and Kate Collinson has designed new order forms. There are new flyers, including one for businesses wishing to order floral products for their locations. Kate has also identified a new fruit vendor.

Sam Shiroff took some gentle ribbing about his recent absences but explained to the club that he and his family will be relocating to Ohio with a new career opportunity.  Sam is hoping that his new job will give him the chance to be more active in a local club.  The members applauded Sam’s support of Rotary and thanked him for having been a member here in Evanston.

Joan Borg thanked club members for their help in our meeting arrangements and called for more volunteers.  She sends an email each Thursday to those on the duty roster for the following Tuesday.  Members who cannot fulfill their commitments are asked to find a replacement.

Steve Goranson reminded board members that there will be a board meeting at his home on Monday, October 12, at 7 p.m.  Address:  729 Milburn St., Evanston.  The topic will be the club’s annual budget.

Brad Weiss reminded everyone of the upcoming Dental Access Days event, which the club supports both financially and with volunteer efforts.  (Both Brad Weiss and MaLu Simon volunteer their services as dentists during the day of service.)  Volunteers are needed at 4 p.m. on both Thursday, October 8, and Saturday, October 10, for set up and breakdown of the equipment.

Don Gwinn reminded the club of the opportunity to attend the theater production, “The Story of a Story,” written and produced by his son, Peter Gwinn.  Club members who would like to attend as a group need to contact Don.  The club outing will take place on Sunday, October 18, with a 4 p.m. show, followed by dinner.  The production is at the Chopin Theater, 1543 W. Division (at Ashland) and tickets are $20.

Steve Goranson reminded members of the opportunity to attend the District conference on October 24.  Contact Steve for further information.
