Program
Tour of the Evanston Art Center
Speaker: Paula Danoff, President and CEO
Harold Bauer opened the program by telling us that the current show at the Evanston Art Center has works from 12 universities throughout Illinois – paintings are from both faculty and students.
He introduced Paula Danoff, the Center's president and CEO. She has a B.A. from Knox College and a Masters’ Degree from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. She was the former development director at the Museum. Paula thanked Harold for his leadership as current board member and former president.
Paula told us that they have an “Art Van Go” program, which goes to parks, schools, assisted living facilities, and nursing homes.
They are thrilled to be at their new location. They have been in Evanston for 87 years, and serve three to four thousand students each year. They have a huge arts program for youth. They partner with schools and with after-school programs, such as Youth Opportunities United (Y.O.U.). They also partner with junior high schools in Evanston.
They provide over 300 classes per term and are open seven days a week with free exhibitions. They have a strong internship program, with a small staff. They have also won the Mayors Award for the Arts in Evanston. Paula tells us "the whole community has rallied around us and we feel very
welcome here."
She announced there is a Winter Arts and Crafts Expo at the Center, Nov. 11 - Dec. 20, which is available from 10-4 each day. Harold mentioned there is an Opening Night Party on Nov. 20.
We had a tour with the two interns: Gabrielle Burrage and Cara Feeney. On the tour members saw the Ceramics Studio,
the Figure Sculpture Studio, the Wood Working Studio, the Youth Studio, the Printmaking Studio, and the Digital Media Maker Lab.
