Indigenous people have always lived in this area since time immemorial and were vital to the formation of Chicagoland as we know it now. Join Josee Starr to learn about the Indigenous tribes, leaders, and cultures that influenced not only Chicago's founding, but also make up the thriving Native American community today.
Josee Starr is an enrolled member of the Three Affiliated Tribes from Fort Berthold, North Dakota. She is also Omaha from Macy, NE and Odawa from Wiikwemkoong Unceded Reserve on Manitoulin Island, Ontario. Currently, she is the Director of Operations at the Mitchell Museum of the American Indian.
Josee has years of experience working with the Native community both as a facilitator of Native Programming and as a volunteer; dedicating time to serving the community. Josee has a passion for Native American arts in all forms, but appreciates the arts of song and sound the most. Josee has worked for Mitchell Museum of the American Indian since 2019.
